Grandma Greeley and Me

George and Maree Greeley

The first picture (left) is one of Grandma Greeley (actually my great-grandmother Catherine Fuller Greeley) and myself taken around 1949. Although she looks very sweet in this picture I (actually everybody) found her to be a very mean and nasty person. When angry she would snap my brother and myself with a wet wash cloth. Her first husband was shot while climbing out of a window of another woman's house. To this day no one knows who murdered him.

Next to this picture is a nice portrait of my grandparents, George and Maree Greeley, of Westfield, Pennsylvania. Among his many occupations my grandfather worked in the local leather tannery. He was also the Justice of the Peace in Westfield for many years (for some reason his checks said "Justice of the Yeace"-- which he never changed just to annoy my grandmother).

While sorting out my mother's papers, my brother and I came across this reprint of a newspaper picture of my mother (left) taken in 1938 (she would have been 14). Standing next to her is Dorothy Bell whose brother Bob later married my aunt Jesse Davis. Click on the image for a view of the 1938 Freshman Class of Westfield, Pennsylvania. Judging by some of the expressions the Depression clearly was not over.

These are the three children of George and Maree Greeley. First is a studio portrait of my uncle Kay and my mother, June Greeley, taken around 1932. Next is a really nice portrait (possibly her High School graduation picture) of my mother. Her brother and sister, Kay and Donna Greeley, are in the next picture. I would have to guess that this picture was taken around 1946.

Here are the children of George and Maree Greeley and their spouses. On the left is my mother (white top) and my father standing behind her. Seated in the chair is my uncle Kay while his wife Janet stands behind him. On the right are my aunt Donna and her husband Bruce Pritchard.This picture was taken at my grandparents home in Westfield, Pennsylvania in February 1969.
