At the Bristol County Court of General Sessions 13 April 1714, Sarah Church, daughter of Joseph Church of Little Compton charged Edward Southworth of Little Compton of being "father of child begottn on her body" (Bristol Co Mass., Court of General Sessions, 1702-1714, 226, 228). The vital records of Little Compton include under the surname Southworth: "Presscilia, dau. of Sarah church, born May 29, 1714" immediately followed by "Benjamin, [son of sarah Church implied] born April 30, 1720" (both births recorded on p. 86 of the original records; RIVR, 4:6:169). Sarah Church was daughter of Joseph and Grace (Shaw) church, and a descendant of Mayflower passenger Richard Warren (MFIP Warren, #545). She married at Little Compton, 30 November 1738, John Talman. Sarah made her will on 24 May 1750, but did not name her reputed children by Edward Southworth (RIGR, 4:171).
